It's over a week now into the lockdown mode in this part of the world whilst some other parts have been longer in the "work-from-home" mode. It is important to check in on our employees at the team level to be sure all team members are doing well. It is even more important that all employees take ownership of managing their individual wellbeing at this time.

As an employee one thing you must give good attention in this period is yourself, I mean your mind, body and soul. So what does this mean? It means that during this period of working from home, all employees must pay attention to themselves. Working from home is no longer an elective of corporate organisations, it is a critical part of the COVID-19 pandemic response. A worldwide lockout is the norm today and this involves more or less a physical "sit-at-home". Medical experts have advised that this shift may come with its own Health and Wellness exigencies that need to be well managed. I engaged a medical consultant to share a few tips employees can embrace at this time to help maintain health and wellness during this period. Here goes; 1. Avoid long haul activities Break up your tasks in the course of the day. Breaks allow you to engage your mind and body in activities which will help you relax. Of course, working from home means you have multiple meetings scheduled, you may choose to take one-on-one calls in between meetings. You may also walk around whilst doing this and build variety into your plan for the day. 2. Eat Well Take care of your body - eat healthily. The medical experts say we should eat a lot of fruits and vegetables at this time especially fruits rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants. According to them, It may also not be out of place to take vitamins and antioxidants at this time. 3. Sleep Well Get enough sleep to refresh and rejuvenate your body. Off course this means you will have to shut down daily to rest and also ensure you literally sleep in at the weekends. 4 Exercise Daily This could include conducting indoor workout classes like walking up and down a flight of stairs, stretching, and dancing. 5. Avoid sitting for too long Avoid sitting long hours in front of the television watching news on the COVID-19 pandemic! This is not to say you should not be informed. You should however not be glued to the TV. The above though simple actions are powered on self-discipline. I have come to realise the body is a machine and there are handling rules to be engaged to get the best out of it. I hope these tips help you get going with week 2 in the right direction. Keep safe, keep well, keep your hands clean and keep your social distance! All the very best!! #covid-19 #Careermatters #workingfromhome
